How Erection Happens?

Sexual arousal can occur in many different ways: by touch, visual or auditory stimuli or fantasies. This excitement is about nerve impulses from the brain (paraventricular nucleus), which run through the spinal cord to the penis. These bring certain chemical messenges, like, for example, muscle relaxation in the corpora cavernosa (spongy tissue) of the penis and blood vessels, thereby, allowing blood to flow more quickly into the cavities of the corpora cavernosa.

Due to the increasing blood flow, the pressure in the corpora cavernosa increases, and all the surrounding vessels get filled with blood. Since the outflow of the blood from the penis is much less than the inflow, an erection happens.

Causes

Erectile dysfunction can be caused by many factors, such as damage of the nerves, poor blood supply, hypertention, or hormonal disorders.

Often, there is also a direct damage to the erectile tissue itself which causes erectile difficulties.

Because erectile dysfunction can be the result of a serious undiscovered illness, a medical examination should be always made before initiation of the Erectile Dysfunction treatment. Additionally, the physician must weigh whether certain types of treatment are possible in a given subject or, based on possible side effects, should not be applied.

This can be made through a detailed survey and investigation of the patient.

Treatment

Today, there is a great number of options for the treatment of impotence available. For example, vacuum pumps, pubis rings, drugs introduced into urethra, surgery, or PDE-5 inhibitors (Viagra®, Cialis®, Levitra®). Which one is better for the individual patient is to be decided individually.

In summary, it can be stated that the intensive researches over the last two decades have significantly expanded the range of treatment options for Erectile Dysfunction.

Anti Impotence Pills

Oral anti impotence pills, like Viagra® (sildenafil citrate), Levitra® (vardenafil), Cialis® (tadalafil), made by Pfizer Inc, Bayer AG and Eli Lilly, respectively, and also called PDE-5 inhibitors, are among the most effective ways to handle erection problems.

Taken as needed, these pills start to act in 20-30 minutes after intake and might work up to 36 hours (Cialis®). Being NOT aphrodisiacs, but the PDE-5 inhibitors, the drugs require sexual stimulation in order to work.
